Club updates

Meet the latest member of the fleet

We are pleased to introduce the latest NDPC boat to the fleet, a Buster XS for those interested in the model details.
It is of aluminium construction that will help us reduce boat maintenance into the future, just like the recently purchased Seastrike models.

Many thanks to Sean Elliot for towing the boat to its new home at Horning.

Update on tagging project

There will be a club meeting on Thursday 7th May 2026. Simone is going to give a presentation and update on the Bream and Pike tagging programme that is underway on the Broads. There will be some representation from the Environment Agency as well. This should be very interesting and topical, given the salt surges of last winter.

The meeting will start as usual from 8.00pm at the Beehive Pub, Leopold Road, Norwich, NR4 7PJ. It would be good to see as many of you there as possible.

Notes from 2026 AGM

  1. Martin Ward has stepped down as Treasurer but remains a committee member. Graham Chappell was voted in as the new treasurer and has joined the committee. Welcome Graham.

  8. This year has been our most successful as far as membership numbers, but it has also brought with it a few problems with boat abuse and rule breaking.
  9. We have purchased yet another aluminium boat, a Buster XS. We will continue to add to the fleet when funds allow.

Update on tagging project

The next meeting will be April 3rd at the usual location (Beehive, Leopold Rd, Norwich, NR4 7PJ @8pm).
At the end of the fishing season last year, club members assisted the Environment Agency by catching both Pike and Bream that were subsequently electronical tagged and released. Simone (tagging project lead) will be providing us with an update on what has been happening since then. This ground breaking study is looking at how climate change and saline incursions affect our freshwater fish behaviour and movement. We hope you agree it will be very interesting to find out more, both members and none members are welcome (no cost for entry). We hope to see you there.

Introduction to fish finders / sonar technology

As well as the normal chat and Pike related banter, the next club meeting (Thursday 6th March 2025) will have our very own Martin Ward presenting a forum on the use of fish finders. This will be aimed at the new user or those who are thinking about getting one. Martin will endeavour to help with basic settings and interpretation of the imagery displayed by the devices. As usual, the venue will be the Beehive Pub, Leopold Road, Norwich, NR4 7PJ @ 8pm. Please come along, I’m sure it will be an interesting session.

Upcoming club meeting

The first club meeting of the 2024/25 Season will be held on Thursday 5th September 2024 at the new venue (to those that did not attend the AGM) of the Beehive Pub, 30 Leopold Road, Norwich NR4 7PJ. The start time will be 8.00pm.

Non Members are welcome. Renewal and new memberships can be processed on the night.

Look forward to seeing you there.

No summer Pike fishing

The club committee have decided that Pike fishing will be NOT be allowed from Norwich and District Pike Club facilities until the 1st October. This means that the club rules will now be amended to reflect that in future no Pike fishing will be permitted from club facilities between 16th June and 30th September each year. There is extensive information that shows that Pike suffer from being caught during the warmer months. Although they may not appear in distress at the time of capture, they may come to harm in the hours afterwards. We do want to look after our Pike to ensure there are fish to be caught in the future.

Secondly, on the Trinity Broads system (Filby, Ormesby Little Broad, Jerusalem Bay, Eels Foot Broad, Lily/Lady Broad and Rollesby Broad) no lure fishing or live baiting (with fish) for other species such as Perch will be allowed between 16th June and 30th September each year from club boats. This has been brought in because there have been disputes with stakeholders about whether members are fishing for Pike during the summer months and the best way to avoid confusion is to ban the use of lures and live fish baits until the 1st October.

This does not apply to Sportsman’s Broad, however the ban on pike fishing remains.

Perch may still be targeted using other natural baits, but not artificial lures or live fish.

Please respect these rule changes, otherwise the committee will be forced to discipline any members who are found to be in breach. Penalties may include being banned from the club.

It is important that we are seen to be responsible, not least because we do not want to loose the ability to have boats on this system.

If you have any issues or concerns with this decision please contact:

Club Chairman, John Currie (tel. 07776 221959, email curriejohn16@yahoo.co.uk)

Annual General Meeting 2024

Thurne tagging

The next club meeting will have representatives from the Environment Agency in attendance to discuss the forthcoming tagging project that the club are assisting with on the River Thurne. Please come along, it should be a very interesting evening.
